This is one of the best quality kits for making small clothing repairs. I bought it to take it with me to college. Due to a small design flaw, I would give this kit 4 stars if considering it an on-the-go kit, but I would still give it 5 stars when considering it a traveler's kit. The case and contents are great overall.
The small leather case seems good in quality. It feels durable. The straps holding the spools and tools are tight to the point that it takes a little effort (in my opinion) to remove some of the items. I like this characteristic because no items fall out when I open the case. The minor nuisance in the case design is that the plastic pockets are too tight for me to reach into with even my smallest finger (Figure 1). I have to use something, such as a pin, to get the buttons and needle threader out of their compartments (Figure 2). The nice thing about those tight pockets is that, as with the straps, items do not readily fall out.
The contents within the case have so far met my standards. The stainless steel scissors are a bit tight on their pivot. However, that is fine since the scissors are meant for cutting only thread. As for the headed pins, they come in a small white tube which assures me they will not get lost while in the leather case (Figure 3). I can say the same about the needles which have an even nicer container. The needle case's lid turns like a dial, allowing the user to move a tiny opening to the front of whichever compartment he/she wants to take a needle from (Figure 4). I like that these are quality needles manufactured in Japan. The metal thimble is also of great quality, with a comfortable feel on my fingers. Additionally, I tested the magnifying glass and it works. Finally, the kit's items which I have not yet mentioned all seem decent.
I expect this kit to perform well in the long term. Since it takes a moment of effort to remove items from the case, this kit would not be ideal for someone in a hurry, which is why I give it 4 stars as an emergency sewing kit. However, when judging it as a traveler's kit, I give it 5 stars because of the overall quality and compact size. Splitting the difference would result in four and a half stars. I cannot divide stars in amazon reviews, so I round it up to 5 stars for the 18 bonus spools of thread.
